What's in the box
Mother Hen ships in one of three boxes. Most customers receive the Base Kit, which includes one of each device. Add-on sensors and Eggs ship in their own smaller boxes.
Base Kit
Section titled “Base Kit”The Base Kit contains everything you need to start monitoring one coop:
- The Controller — the brain of the system. It is the cellular gateway that sits in the coop, watches your automatic chicken door, listens for the Coop Climate Sensor, and talks to the cloud. The Controller ships with its antenna, the antenna mounting hardware (nut, rubber grommet, and a non-conductive isolation pad), and a 110V power supply.
- The Egg — the indoor status light that sits on your kitchen counter, nightstand, or living-room shelf. It glows green, blue, amber, or red to tell you the state of the coop at a glance. The Egg ships with a USB power cable and a 110V USB power adapter.
- One Coop Climate Sensor — a small wireless sensor that reports door-or-window state, ambient temperature, and humidity. It ships with its magnet half, mounting screws (metric), and an adhesive backing.
- A Quick-Start card with a QR code that takes you directly to your account in the Portal.
- A subscription welcome card that lists your renewal date. The first year of service is included with the Base Kit; renewal is $99/year.
Set the Quick-Start card and the subscription welcome card aside before you start installing. The QR code on the Quick-Start card is how you register your devices, and the renewal date on the welcome card is printed there and nowhere else.
Add-on Coop Climate Sensor
Section titled “Add-on Coop Climate Sensor”If you ordered an extra Coop Climate Sensor on its own, the box contains one sensor, a magnet half, mounting screws (metric), an adhesive backing, and a single setup card. Use a second sensor to monitor an additional door or window, or to track temperature and humidity at a second spot inside the coop.
Add-on Egg
Section titled “Add-on Egg”If you ordered an extra Egg on its own, the box contains one Egg, a USB power cable, a 110V USB power adapter, and a single setup card. Use a second Egg in a bedroom, a home office, or at the house of a neighbor watching the flock while you travel. Up to 16 Eggs can be paired to a single Controller.
