Registering your system

Registration ties the hardware in your box to an account in the Portal. Once registration is complete, your devices show up in the Portal, alerts route to your phone, and the Egg starts reflecting coop state.

The whole process takes about three minutes if your devices are powered up and you have your Quick-Start card in hand.

Pull the Quick-Start card out of the box. The QR code is the large square on the front. Open your phone’s camera, point it at the code, and tap the link that appears.

The link takes you to portal.themotherhen.com with your Controller already identified. You do not have to type anything or remember a serial number.

If the QR code does not scan — the printer was light, the phone camera is finicky — type portal.themotherhen.com into a browser by hand and use the short ID printed below the QR code as your fallback.

On the registration page, sign in with Google. We use Google sign-in to keep account creation simple and to avoid asking you to invent yet another password.

You will be asked for:

  • Your email address (filled in by Google).
  • A phone number for SMS alerts.

That is it for registration. Coop name, address, and other details are collected later in the Portal — you do not need them at this step.

After you complete sign-in, the Portal opens to your device list. You should see:

  • Your Controller, listed by its short identifier.
  • The Egg from your box, paired to that Controller.
  • The Coop Climate Sensor from your box, listed under the Controller.

If something is missing, give it two or three minutes — the Controller publishes its inventory on its first cellular session after power-on, and that can take a moment to land. If a device is still missing after five minutes, see Troubleshooting.

From the Portal, look for the “Send test SMS” button on your account page. Tap it. Within about 30 seconds, an SMS should arrive at the phone number you entered.

If the test message arrives, your alert pipeline is wired up end-to-end. If it does not, see No alerts arriving.

The Portal is under active development and the screens can change between releases. If the registration flow looks different from these instructions, email support — we’ll walk through it with you.
